Who am I and what makes you tick, then I would answer that I am driven to find a balance between nature and our human existence. This balance would reflect in my work, play and home life. It would be built-in and pulsate through my veins. We are deeply connected with nature. The world has changed, and as homo sapiens, we ought to have adapted and changed our ways of living years ago.

With the rapid growth of urbanisation and the movement of people from rural areas to the city, many aspects of our living require consideration. With an existing infrastructure, integrated urban planning policies ought to be introduced, and carefully developed, with the main focus on human dimension and space, to recreate a sustainable environment, which could reduce energy consumption.

The main focus is to incorporate elements of nature and natural elements (outer) into the built environment (inner). This is known as biophilic design and it has proven to measurably reduce stress, enhance cognitive function and creativity, and expedite healing.

From what we have learned recently, it takes active participation in changing any environment to enhance productivity, minimise healthcare cost and reduce OUR IMPACT on the environment.

“an innate and genetically determined

affinity of human beings with the natural world”

The urban environment is continuously under pressure to give way to ecocentric planning and design approaches, which contribute little to uphold the sound spatial framework or acknowledge our incorporated approach to nature.

My work reflects a cultural expression that celebrates individuals and groups who have made significant contributions to benefit the South African society and environment. From time to time, links will be made available to honour these contributors.

My Story

I grew up on a farm in Africa, in a living community, subjected to the weather conditions that determined the outcome of a good crop year on year. My learning as a child was entirely formed by awareness and response to my surroundings.

The basis of my learning was to try and understand the essence of all subject matter. By trial and error, nature taught me to respect life and mature in my sensibilities and to respond with care.
